The largest town and main business centre of the Northern Buller region Westport sits at the mouth of the mighty Buller River.

To the north lie the settlements of Denniston, Granity and Mokihinui before the end of the road and Southern tip of the Heaphy Track just beyond the settlement of Karamea 95 kms from Westport.

Within this area you will find many scenic walks full of history and awesome scenery, along with some of the more adventurous activities that the Buller Region has to offer.

Natural Westport

20 minutes drive to the west of the township will bring you to Cape Foulwind Walkway and the Seal Colony, travelling inland from here to the Coast Highway will bring you to the once thriving metropolis of Charleston.

It is hard to imagine that in it's hayday Charleston boasted of over 80 hotels and three hospitals, packed with history and easy walking tracks the Charleston region is also home to many adventures including, Scenic trips on the Rainforest Train, Adventure caving and rafting to name a few.

The road south to Punakaiki winds through the mountanious coastal region for another 25 minutes drive to Dolomite Point and the world famous Punakaiki blowholes and Pancake rocks. Along side these scenic splendors Punakaiki offers you Horse Trekking, Swimming, surfing and fishing. Rock climbing and miles of walking tracks in and around the Paparoa National Park.

Eastward of Westport lie the majestic southern alps and the famous Buller Gorge, whether you are coming from Nelson and Picton or Kaikoura and Christchurch the Gorge road is a truly fantastic journey.
