Travel: Self Drive
Self Drive Alpine West Rentals from Nelson, Picton, Kaikoura or Christchurch to Westport and begin your adventures on the Scenic Buller Gorge Road, followed the next day with the Honey Comb Caves at Karamea before heading south to Cape Foulwind, and Punakaiki. Day 3 continue the journey south to Greymouth, Hokitika and Westland then the Glaciers to complete your West Coast Adventures through the incredible Haast Pass to Wanaka.- more »

The drive times in all our Itinerary, Travel and Tour Guides are, unless stated otherwise, realistic times in which to complete the journey from point to point, place to place, allowing for a short 5-10 minute break in each hour of driving.
These times are calculated at an average of 90kmh driving speed to cover the stated distance. Thus a journey of 180kmh is said to take 2 hours and 10 minutes.
